Meeting of February 20: some reflections Friday, February 20 was held in the meeting of the Collective Psychology.
declared aim of the meeting was to discuss and analyze the university Wave movement that exploded in Italy between October and December last year (with particular reference to situazione triestina), e di tentare di portarne avanti la causa: la lotta alla privatizzazione dell'istruzione universitaria.
What was lacking in the movement was a democratic organization. Why organization, and why democratic? We explain these two points:
- organization: by its very nature, the wave included several faces, belonging to different ideas and different political and administrative styles. It is clear that the only way to mediate between different positions is an organization of representative types and cooperative, whose task is to command, but to coordinate the movement at two levels: within universities and between universities. Alternatives to the organization are the interminable discussions at the meeting or dialectical impulses: the kind of speech that inflames the minds, but that does not produce anything concrete.
Democratic - : the organization must start from the bottom. The movement sprang up spontaneously, and any kind of external control is likely to put a stop to it and a bridle. The representatives of the movement must be elected by the movement itself, we do not believe that they can also be the institutional representatives of the faculties, as bearers of political interests which conflict with the nature of a spontaneous movement.
clarified that two points about the situation of the movement of the past, it seemed useful and natural groped to clarify present and future. In this context, emerged two seemingly antithetical positions. On the one hand, you might find popular support and a broad consensus, trying to bring information and ideas to people now inactive, the other one might instead concentrate on people now active and groped to continue a discourse more politically advanced and complex.
Since both of these solutions seem carriers of defects (for the first utopianism, elitism and separation from the masses for the second), we tried to synthesize dialectically.
The role of the Collective must be prepared and political vanguard at the same time must work to create conditions for the emergence of a popular movement, and finally must be able to coordinate their activities. It seems to me that these roles (but who might also be defined phases dynamics) can drain adequately the needs of the Collective: be flexible and diverse, which must adapt its efforts with those of the context in which it is located, and that its efforts do his best to change favorably the context itself.
On the practical side, those present agreed to read and analyze the document of the 12 wrote to the University of Rome, which could become a reference point for the movement. Another initiative that we have turned our attention (even with international assistance from Pierre) was the strike of workers and citizens violently suppressed in the French overseas region of Guadeloupe, to whom we express our solidarity.
Finally, to take up the theme of the discussion above, all these were considered in agreement about the collective to continue the meetings in the coming weeks, we believe that everyone should continue to "trained and informed" about the counter-reactionary government with respect to public education, so you can actually speak in a clear and comprehensive if it were a situation conducive to re-birth of a movement, and work to ensure that this situation can be created.
you at the next meeting!
