Appeals for international solidarity: La Scintilla supports young people and workers in general strike in Guadeloupe!

James has mentioned in his account of the meeting of Friday, February 20: those present were in favor of supporting the heroic struggle of young people from Guadeloupe and workers, on strike for higher salaries and against high prices and neo-colonial exploitation in general.

In fact, the indifference of the Italian media, the general strike continues to cripple them for more than a month the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, French overseas province. With a total disregard for the demands of the population, the French government has chosen to use the hard way and has sent more police furniture (the French police) from metropolitan France in an attempt to suppress and stifle it in blood most just struggle. With a certain effect: many injuries and also a union official who died in unknown conditions.

But the struggle continues!

Some information that explains the situation: the island is in fact controlled by the few but powerful families " Béke " (the descendants of white settlers), which owns 50% of the land used to aim almost exclusively of the export market, but also the leading retail chains and importers of goods. They are the real "Masters" of the island, and impose their rules in the local economy. Result: prices in the Caribbean are on average three times higher than those of metropolitan France, while wages are lower, and the unemployment rate is much higher (50% of young people under 25 are unemployed!). Pure graduates have almost no chance of entering the labor market, since companies do come placement of graduates from metropolitan France.

In the context of a global economic crisis that the government wants to pay only for young people and workers, the collective LKP leading the hopes that the revolt in Guadeloupe Their struggle may just be the "spark" that can turn the rest of the city to extend to the rest of the continent and the world, against a future of exploitation, unemployment and insecurity.
