La storia della Resistenza femminile non è stata ancora realmente scritta. Esistono però numerose testimonianze, dati, fatti che ci consentono di valutare la reale portata di questa partecipazione.
L’adesione femminile nelle sue diverse forms (fighters or supporters in the struggle for liberation) was large and important and they are reflected in every Italian region. What were the reasons that pushed thousands of women to make a "choice" that no one would ever claim them? In fact, if there were grounds for compulsory military men, women on the other hand, staying at home, would not have suffered the disapproval or moral judgments to anybody. The women's resistance movement appears to us then as "spontaneous." Volunteers were the women more than men, and this choice of field allowed them, for the first time, to feel the potential stars of the history of their country, in one of the most critical and painful.
In the words of the protagonists of those events there is still the meaning and necessity of the struggle that saw them act and suffering, facing arrests, violence and deportation. But their stories also sometimes leaks out the bitterness of those who did not recognize the efforts made since then and has been the silence of memory.
